The new pattern is finished and I really enjoyed this one! For starters, the center, border and binding are all from 5" strips! And while you can buy the pre-cut packs. I just used half-yard cuts of 12 fabrics from the same line. If you go the pre-cut route, consider buying a set from several different collections to give yourself some variety.

I finished up the top of pattern #8 yesterday. I'm very slow and the whole thing from cutting to piecing to pressing took me 5. 8 hours. This is my fastest and easiest pattern to date! I hope to release it next week, so keep an eye out.

On a side note, I'm already feeling the Christmas spirit and made this adorable ornament this weekend! I'm sure I'll have to make a few more before the season is over.

Creative wheels are turning...

It's too bad that there are so many road blocks. My machine is sick again. The kids keep getting sick, which means I keep getting sick. And even though I have my next pattern completely designed and written up, the fabric that I MUST have isn't available in the stores yet. I also have another pattern spinning round and round, but I really want to do the other one first.

Now, in my hurry to post the Autumn Dance pattern, I completely forgot to mention that at least half of the amazing fabrics used in the cover quilt were loving hand-dyed by Jill Eugena of Color Me Wyrd. All of her fabrics are one-of-a-kind works of art!

While I am anxious to get moving on those other patterns, I do have plenty going on to keep myself busy. I'm participating in a mystery quilt at my guild...15 light FQs and 15 med to dark half-yards. I just now have my fabrics picked out. It was especially difficult for me, as I was determined to only use stuff from my stash. Now, I'm a bit behind as I haven't cut the fabrics yet and we are already into the first stage of sewing.

Shelby Sue, the new puppy, is also keeping me on my toes. Yes, she has a middle name. She is into so much mischief that a middle name was warranted.

I also haven't posted my center block from my Ostrich Challenge, so here it is. I have an idea of what I want to do for the first round, but it is going to be difficult. So, I'm procrastinating on it. The thing is, if I make a mistake, there will be not be any way to fix it.

Need to go now...the Halloween decorations are calling my name...

Road block and Ostrich

I've hit a bit of a road block...my machine is sick. We took it in for servicing this weekend and hope they aren't too backed up to get it done soon. I am really striving to have the new pattern available on September 21st, but that might not happen. I do have another machine, but it is really best to use only one machine on a project as they sew differently and the scant quarter inch measurement might not be precisely the same. So, this is just another opportunity for me to work on my patience level. LOL!

Regarding the Ostrich Challenge...I've decided on 6 rounds, 2 months between each round. We all have busy lives and I don't want this to take up a lot of time for anyone. If you are planning on participating, please sign up under the discussion board on the FB Fan page. The deadline to choose and submit a picture of your orphan block (or a block that you make if you don't have an orphan) is September 15th. The first round will be announced on the 21st and I'm excited about the theme! I think it will be an easy one, so you will have to be responsible for making it challenging. Oh, and I've decided to not to wait until the end for a giveaway! I'll hold a drawing for each deadline, including the one to submit a pic of your orphan block. And for this first one, if you can talk a friend into taking the challenge with you, I'll submit your name twice. Just be sure to let me know who they are so I can give you the credit. ;)

288 of 336 seams for 24 blocks are done! My sweet little boy loves putting the pieces back up on the design board for me after I've pieced and pressed parts together. I must say it is a huge help!

I've decided on hosting an Ostrich Challenge! Don't know what an Ostrich Challenge is??? Well, it is similar to a Round Robin, except that like an Ostrich, it doesn't take flight...meaning you do all the rounds yourself. Also, you may choose to "stick your head in the sand" by not doing one round.You will start with an orphan block. There will be between 6 to 12 rounds, with a month or two between each round. I haven't decided yet, so this would be the time to voice a preference.The idea here is to really challenge yourself. This is a time to try techniques, color choices, etc. that you would normally feel uncomfortable with. Step outside your comfort zone. Since you are doing all the rounds yourself, who cares what anyone else might think, it isn't their quilt...No quilt police allowed with this project!I participated in an Ostrich Challenge some time ago. I really loved the finished top! I learned a lot and found I was capable of more than I knew. Now, I know that the experience itself might be enough of a reward. But, I think I might be offering some surprise gifts at the end. I mean, who doesn't like winning something, especially when it is well deserved???

A new addition...

We have a new addition to our family...Shelby. We aquired her when we were on a family trip celebrating Gentry's birthday. Some friends of ours had found her abandoned on the side of the highway and had taken her in, hoping to find her a good home.

Well, she has found one and we are becoming quite attached. Did I mention that I'm allergic to dogs? Well, I am and I've been under the influence of Benadryl since about an hour after we got her in the car. She is such a good puppy though, I think she is definitely worth it.

She is also a rather lazy puppy, which makes her even more adorable.

In spite of all the new excitement, I have still managed to work on my upcoming pattern. It is perfect for Autumn, my favorite season. Think clear blue skies and wonderful warm tones.

Oh, and before I forget, we have a new addition to the stores on the right. Blackberry Patch Quilt Shop in MS is now carrying Divine Inspirations patterns. I had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Cathy, this weekend and she is a real sweetheart. She is having an amazing sale at the moment, you won't want to miss out!

Gentry's Birthday Quilt & Sale Ending

I finished Gentry's quilt! Thank heaven! It was a real bear, for so many reasons. I'd never do it again, but am glad to have done it this once as I think he'll love it.

We are taking him to the aquarium in Chattanooga, TN for his birthday. I've been before, a long time ago, and loved it. I'm sure he'll have a wonderful time.

Our Back-t0-School sale on the patterns is coming to an end. This is the last day to get your savings. Today I finally get to start working on the next pattern. :) Which reminds me....I've been doing a bit of brainstorming and have a few thoughts roaming around in my head about doing something just a bit different. I'm toying with the idea of making some patterns for some wall-hangings, maybe calendar related...and/or doing a BOM...and/or doing an online mystery...and/or having some patterns available for PDF download. Do any of these ideas sound interesting to you? Let me know, I'd love the feedback.

The kids start school next week. It seems earlier and earlier all the time. It took me a good few weeks to adjust to having them back at home and underfoot all the time when summer came. Now, I can't imagine them gone each morning and afternoon at school. It will be so quiet... which is great for work, but I'll miss them dearly.

In addition to Gentry's quilt, I'm working on a placemat to go with a tablerunner I made earlier this summer. I am also finally getting back to working on the Underground Railroad quilt. But I only get the tiniest amount done on these each day as a bit of a break from Gentry's.

"Lady Catherine" is finally finished. The top is made from one layer cake and one honey bun. If you like the simplicity of the Sassy Sixteen and The Jelly Maker's Cabin, this is along the same line.

Back from Kansas City...

I had a wonderful time! I even visited a couple of quilt stores, which is always a bonus.

The quilt top for the next pattern is completed and I hope to have it basted by tomorrow night. I love the fabric line I used for it, so very romantic. I would really love to have this one ready for release by my birthday. So, don't be surprised if I'm absent a lot.

Guilty as charged...

I know...it's been forever since I last posted. Shame on me! Let's see if I can catch up a bit today.

I finished Hailey's quilt top. I know the picture isn't very clear, but I probably won't bother taking another one until the entire thing is done. I have it basted and partially quilted. I had planned on quilting around the potion blocks this morning but I have been blessed by several orders the last couple of weeks and today had two to fill. Perhaps I'll find the time and energy after church tonight.

I shamefully didn't do the BOM at the guild this month. I did manage to make a block for a member's quilt that we are all working on. I've been nominated to be in charge of the BOM next year. Not sure how I feel about that. I was thinking of taking a year off. At least this position will be a bit more creative than the other two I've held.

We had a wonderful Spring Break with the kids. A few activities and outings...some great family time. We even took Flat Stanley along...those of you that have kids and/or read the book probably know what I'm talking about. :)

I have also worked on a few other quilty things: a baby quilt, the leaders and enders coffee quilt, etc. Each of them have their own sad stories that I will tell sometime when I've gotten over them. :/. In the meantime, I've developed a probably unhealthy addiction to a FB game called PackRat. Hubby used to tease me until he decided to give it a try...now he's hooked too. LOL!

Potions and Snow

What a glorious weekend!

I finished up two more blocks for Hailey's Quilt... Potion blocks. Now, I need to spend more time today cutting fabric and if time allows working on two more star blocks.

The weather this weekend was incredible. We received some heavenly snow fall both Saturday and Sunday. I wish it snowed more often like that in this area...maybe three or four times a year.

I finished another block on Monday for Hailey's quilt, the 2nd of the book blocks. Yesterday I started working on the potions block. It is taking a little longer than I had hoped so I'll post a picture when it's done. But, I'm pleased with it so far.

Had guild last night, so much fun. I even won a door prize. Isn't it cute? It is originally from a quilt shop in Victoria, BC called Satin Moon Quilt Shop. The "bar" contains 8 Fat 8ths.

Pat at The Stitchin' Station/The Quilting Barn in Arlington has asked me to teach a class on "Sunday Brunch". We haven't decided on a day of the week or a time yet, so if you are interested give her a call.

Allergies and Migraines

The weather here is driving me crazy....cold, hot, cold...it's having a terrible effect on me. I woke up with swollen eyes and the third migraine in three days! Okay, well, that's enough complaining. I have a very busy week ahead and so much I want to accomplish, no time for negativity.

The fabric for the new pattern arrived and is begging me to "play" with it. But I can't. I have to be loyal and dedicated to my daughter's birthday quilt for now. I finished three of 12 blocks this weekend and would love to keep up the pace of 1 block a day. It's so hard though when the whole thing is supposed to be kept a secret. I have to put everything away and only work on it when she's out of the house or sleeping. I am really excited about this one though and think she's going to love it. I showed you the focus fabric before that's going into the border. The center of the quilt is going to be a book shelf with cubbie like sections. Some will have panels with stars, some will have books and the others will have potions. I have two star panels finished and 1 book section. I hope to get another book section completed tonight.

Last summer, I bought a kit online...something about a Coffee Lovers Mystery International Quilt something or other. Well, it's one of those I want to do for myself. Those always get put on the back burner as I need to do for the kids and the business and the guild, which is fine, just makes it harder to do for fun alone. So, this year I'm determined to do more of the "just for fun" stuff, which was why I was able to do the Thomas in Paris top. On a side note, I now have several tops for myself that really need to be quilted, so that will be something else to focus on at a later time. Back to the Coffee Whatever It Was, I cut up the majority of the pieces and am going to sew this one together using them ONLY as leaders and enders. I've done the L&E before, but eventually switched over to sewing the projects as normal. Not this time around! This is going to be like an experiment to see how long it takes and if I actually can do it. I've already started, as I wanted to start at the same time as I was doing Hailey's quilt. So far I'm pleased with what I've accomplished and it will be interesting to see how much is completed when Hailey's top is completed. Wouldn't it be something if it was completed first? I'll post pics as time goes by...

I had planned on posting yesterday, but was too busy and too wonderfully exhausted from the previous quilt night and a great Valentine's Day the day before. The rest of my week will be busy as well, so today's the day!

Let's see...oh yes, the new pattern is doing well and I've added to new locations where it can be purchased...Over The Rainbow and Fat Quarter Shop. I just love both of these stores! And on Saturday, in the middle of lunch, I came up with the idea for the next pattern and jotted it down on a paper bag while I ate. I'm going for a softer, sweeter look this time around so I'm using Aviary by 3 Sisters for Moda. The last two I've designed were a bit more work than the first three, which is what was requested. However, so many love the simple and quick patterns that I hope this one will find itself in that category. It requires 1 layer cake and 1 honey bun, which I have already ordered. But it may take awhile before I get to it, as I have to do Hailey's birthday quilt (which I still don't have the rest of the fabric)!

Valentine's Day was wonderful! The kids made me feel so loved and I hope I did the same for them. Hubby got me the usual card and lots of candy, but he also got me furniture for my quilt studio! He got the oak colored set which is a perfect match to the oak shelves I have in there! He is such a sweetheart! Sadly, I ordered his gift near the beginning of the month and it still hasn't arrived. Good thing he isn't as sentimental about things as I am. I'm hoping it will be here by tomorrow! As you can see though, the banquette is perfect for the kids to do their homework and stuff while Mommy is at the machine. It will also be great for pizza and/or dessert breaks during the quilt nights!

In honor of Valentine's Day, I did manage to turn over and photograph the topper on the credenza. While I prefer the dark blue, this is a nice change.

Sunday night the Advent PUPs ladies came over for another quilt night and we all had a great time. Earlier in the weekend I had finished making some placemats for the upcoming Farm & Gin show, the tops were already done, I just had to birth and quilt them.

I also made the guild's BOM, which I have to confess I had not made one in a couple of months...shame on me!

While the ladies were here, I was able to finish up the Thomas in Paris top. Now, I'm in the middle of cutting pieces for another coffee related quilt/wallhanging. I'm going to stack up the pieces and sew it together as leaders and enders while I do Hailey's quilt.

The kids were off from school yesterday and also today. Yesterday, was a whirlwind of a day. My dear friend brought over her granddaughter and my kids loved that! They played while my friend and I were in the quilt room...fun for all. Then my daughter comes inside in tears complaining that someone threw a brick at her and it hit her face. Well, there was definitely a horrible mark there, but I couldn't imagine either of the other kids throwing a brick at her. Well, after numerous questions the true story finally came out...Hailey and the other girl put bricks up in a tree (I mean seriously...where was her brain?!?), which she proceeded to stand under (again...brain completely absent?!?) and my son had tugged on a limb which of course made the brick fall. God was so looking out for her as it landed on her cheekbone...could have been so very much worse! She is completely fine and, I pray to God, a bit wiser. After the whole fiasco though, she decided she wanted to work on making a quilt...how cute is she!

Okay, that's enough babbling for today. I have to finish reading for the bookclub on Thursday and I won't have any time tomorrow as I'll be at church nearly all day.

New Pattern Finished..."Sunday Brunch"

Yippee! I actually finished days before my deadline and the new pattern is all done. I really like the movement in this pattern created by the lighter and darker values.

Most of my week has been consumed finishing this quilt and pattern. Now, I am going to focus on my book for the book club. Only problem is...everytime I try to read it I fall asleep. I don't think it's the book...I think it is because I read myself to sleep everynight. Pavlov would be proud.

I need to start finding fabrics for Hailey's quilt this week also. I still have to find the pattern too. Oh, and I had an idea, but that would add quite a bit more work to the quilt. I hate it when that happens!

I'm really looking forward to this weekend. It will be nice to have the AdventPups ladies over again. And we can't forget about Valentine's Day....I just hope the gifts for my hubby arrive in time.

Making Progress

The top for the next pattern is done and basted. So, today I will be quilting and quilting and quilting. This one is larger than the others. We hardly had enough room to baste it. I don't even want to think what it will be like getting it in and out of my little machine. I do have another distorted image here of what the center of the quilt looks like. I still think it gives you a pretty good idea of what it really looks like.
I also have at least 95% of the actual pattern completed. I still keep reading it over and over though, looking for things to correct. As long as my machine doesn't give me any trouble and no major incidents occur in my life, I should be able to meet my deadline.

I received a package in the mail yesterday with the focus fabric for Hailey's birthday quilt. I'm using it as the border and then hopefully pulling all the other fabrics for the top from my stash. I just have to remember where I put the pattern...I'm so unorganized right now!

I also received these images from an online friend. She saw another ad from Country Dawn in a magazine. It is slightly different from the previous one and the magazine is a different one also. Thanks, Tasha, for sharing these with me.

Well, the countdown for the next quilt night has already started and is less than 2 weeks away. I can't wait! I wonder if I'll still be working on that Christmas Braid quilt. Oh, who am I kidding? Of course, I will! At least the company will keep me occupied.

Thomas in Paris, New Pattern & the World According to Gentry

The last few days have been super busy! I've been working extra hard and long on my upcoming pattern. I am hoping to release it on Valentine's Day, so I need to really keep at full speed to make that happen. I did take a picture of the progress I've made on the quilt itself...

...and yes, I did distort it a bit, just to keep everyone guessing.

Here is the picture of my "Thomas in Paris" quilt I've been working on in my spare time. This is the center and I have just two borders left to add. The quilt is a really easy and fun pattern, I could definitely see making another one like this sometime. And if you stick to just the center, it is a good size for a baby quilt.

Now, I have mentioned before that my son, Gentry, has a unique way of looking at things...and positioning items in ways that make since to him. Before I showed you the Lizard Salad. Today, I have a few other things I've found around the house recently. The first was accomplished when I asked him to stack my HP books on the dresser.

The second is something I discovered when I went to work out on my exercise bike.

And finally, he thought this was a better way to "stack" the Jenga pieces.

What a Wonderful Surprise!

I received an email yesterday from Liz Schedeler of Bits 'n Pieces Quilt and Fabric Shoppe, telling me to check out the McCall's Quilting April 2009 issue. You could have knocked me over with a feather!

What a great honor and good exposure, even if they did misspell my name. It's not Kimberly Camon, it's Kimberly Camou. I didn't really mind much, but hubby immediately called the editorial department and left a message. People are constantly misspelling my last name, not to mention mispronouncing it. It is pronounced like "canoe", but with an "m" instead of the "n". However, this isn't the first time I've had my name mispelled in publication...when I was junior high, I won 3rd place in a writing contest for the DAR. The local newspaper printed "Kiberly". When you try to say it...it sounds like you are trying to say "Kimberly" with a really stuffed up nose. LOL! No matter, just be sure to stop by Liz's shop if you are ever in New Hampshire or visit her online. She is really a sweetie!

I had a pretty productive weekend. I finished all of the initial cutting to make the quilt for my next pattern. I have listed in the instructions to mark before you cut to avoid mistakes...I didn't mark, so I made a mistake and had to order more fabric. Thank goodness they had some at River City Quilts. I think that is the second time I was able to find something I really needed and they were carrying it when other stores no longer had it. So, whether you are desperate or just looking for fun, stop by and visit them.

I finished the bindings on Judy's SSG quilt and will be giving it to her this week. I also started to work on the Valentine's Kit I had mentioned before. However, what I thought was a small to medium sized wall-hanging is actually much larger and has a zillion pieces. Not what I need to be working on right now. So, I moved on to the "Thomas in Paris" quilt. Much more simple and fun. I nearly have the whole center part pieced and will show pics soon.

So much fun!!!

The quilt night was so great! We all had a wonderful, and productive, time. My only regret is that my room is not larger to accomodate even more friends. I can really only fit 4 friends and myself comfortably...quilters do like to have lots of space to spread and work on things. I hate to leave anyone out, so I guess I'll need to have many more quilt nights, inviting different ladies each time. These are ladies (and very dear friends) from my church that also attend my guild.

I thought I'd work on fun things, but decided it would be best to work on things I didn't want to work on since I had good company to distract me. I pieced the binding and added it to the front of Judy's Stormy Stained-Glass quilt.

I also did quite a bit more on the Christmas Braids quilt, but still have a great deal more to do.

Yesterday, I worked a lot on my next pattern. Mostly in making graphics for the pattern. I tend to think good graphics are really important, so I try to do my best.

Today I'm going to work some more on binding the SSG quilt and doing another test block for the pattern. If I accomplish those goals...I'm definitely going to start doing some cutting for the Valentine's quilt. However, Wednesday Night Alive starts again today and that means I won't have much free time. In addition, CTS is making it hard to do the hand work on the binding. Oh well, we'll see how it goes.

Quilting All-nighter...almost here!

I'm thrilled with anticipation! Less than two hours from now, several friends and family will be here for a wonderful night long quilt fest. I have tables and chairs set up and all that is left is to set out refreshments. I was hoping to sleep late today to give me a bit more stamina for tonight, but it didn't work out that way. So, I'll be having lots of caffeine I'm sure. I have something to bind, something to quilt, something to piece by machine and something to piece by hand. If I could find my fusible web, I'd even have something to applique. So, there should be no problem finding something to work on regardless of my mood.
I finished the credenza topper. Not a great picture. I really like how well the topper turned out...and it is reversible. So, perhaps when it is closer to Valentine's Day I'll flip it over and show you a picture of the other side.

Well, it is even colder today than yesterday. That's okay, I've been enjoying my quilty time. Yesterday called for my froggy slippers to keep me cozy. And they worked very well! I finished quilting on the Stormy Stained Glass, then de-pinned, clipped the threads and trimmed all the edges. Today I'll need to work on piecing together the scrappy binding. I also finished the template for the credenza topper and even cut out the top fabric. It was definitely a productive day! Perhaps today I can decide on the backing fabric??? As you can see, my sweet hubby did make me hot chocolate yesterday and even used one of my extra-large mugs. That really helped keep me toasty warm. One thing I can definitely say about my husband is that when he loves someone...they know it without a doubt! The same can be said for the people he doesn't care about too, but I'm so fortunate not to be on that list. The anniversary of our first date is coming up this month and we'll have been together for 15 years. And in that time, we have thoroughly enjoyed loving and treating each other to those wonderful sweet little gestures. I really think that is one of the keys to a good and lasting relationship. Find those tiny little things that the other person loves and remember to do at least one of them on a daily basis. I know that we are happier now than we were, even back then. Perhaps not as carefree, but definitely more in love. Which makes me think that on top of my already long list of quilty things to work on...there is a Valentine's Day kit I received from a friend over a year ago now that perhaps I should at least play around with.

The cold has arrived...

and I'm not running around town anytime soon! I'm off to a great start on my little Winter Quilt-a-thon. I completed the top and basted the foundation quilt for the Baby Button series (shown in the picture). After that I spent some time quilting the Stormy Stained Glass quilt and now have 5/9 of it done. I really would love to have it quilted, trimmed and the binding ready to be sewn on before Sunday night. But if not, that's okay too. Today I'm going to work some more on the template for the credenza topper and try to get through at least an additional 1/9 of the quilt. I think I need to go get a pair my comfy slippers to help keep me toasty warm. Oh, and maybe some hot chocolate too! Hubby always adds extra marshmallows when he makes it for me. :)

The cold is coming...

...and I love to work on quilting when it gets cold! I have my step-mother's quilt basted, which I'm calling the "Stormy Stained-Glass" quilt. I have 1/9 of it quilted.

I did finish the Autumn Sassy Sixteen #2 quilt. I hope to get it basted tonight. It took me forever to find the backing fabric. We moved several months ago and we are still sorting through boxes.

In the search, I found the backing fabric for my Sampler of Psalms quilt, pieced the back and did manage to get that one basted. I have no idea when I'll actually quilt it or how long it will take, but I definitely plan on taking my time with it and maybe trying some new things.

I am also planning on working on a few smaller projects to help my "instant gratification" need. The first is a Baby Button kit from Joined at the Hip, that a dear friend gave me two years. The second is a custom top for a hall table I have in my foyer. It is actually more of a small credenza, with a very odd shaped top. It desperately needs to be refinished on top, but I doubt I'll be taking that project up anytime soon, so I thought a nice quilted topper would suffice. I don't think I'll even be piecing it, probably just one fabric for the top and one for the bottom...maybe reversible.

I want to have several projects ready for this weekend, when I will probably be hosting my first quilting all-nighter. Not knowing what my mood will be, it would be nice if I had something that I could quilt, or piece, or baste, or bind. I might do a little of each. ;)

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and a great start to the New Year! I definitely did. We had a wonderful, relaxing and mostly quiet Christmas this year. It was great!

My nieces from Oklahoma came for a visit over Christmas and New Years. Hailey and Gentry were thrilled!

I managed to get the first table and the first shelving unit in my new studio. I say the first as I'll need more of each, but I was thrilled that things were starting to come together in there. My dear friend, Jackie, came by earlier this week and we spent nearly 10 hours in there sewing away together. It was wonderful. I managed to finish the top for my step-mom's quilt and hope to get it basted before the weekend is over.

I also worked on two other quilts at the same time. The Autumn Sassy Sixteen is nearly finished, just three border sides left. So hopefully I can post a picture of it tomorrow. The third quilt is that Victorian inspired Christmas Braids quilt. The center calls for 6 braids and as you can see in the picture, only 3 are complete. However, the other three I'm working on at the same time.

Tomorrow should be another great sewing day. And maybe I'll get something organized in there too...or not. ;)

Ice on the way....

Well, the ice storm is on it's way. Hailey will be getting out of school 2 hours early. Gentry was already home from being sick. I tried to sleep late today. I was up until close to 5:00 working on Christmas stuff and checking on Gentry over and over again. Thankfully, he is doing much better now...having gone from "listless" to "bored". LOL! I honestly think that the more "fun" things I do with them, the more bored they are during down time. I cooked and baked all weekend long. The kids decorated some gingerbread cookies for themselves and I made and decorated some reindeer cookies for gifts. I still have some wonderful friends (and a very few family members) that still appreciate handmade gifts. I also made my own version of Santa's White Christmas Snack. I call it my own version as I originally made it with what I had on hand instead of what the recipe called for. It turned out well though, so I'm keeping it like that. I made a few other Christmas treats as well. I spent the whole weekend in the kitchen. Would you believe I'm still not done yet??? I did manage to make some more ornaments while cookies were in the oven. However, I haven't finished trimming the tree or decorating the house, and I'm seriously behind on the wrapping! I've been going non-stop since before December, and I'm still not done. I'm not complaining, I'm just perplexed! Well, I know in the end it will all be done, but this year I'm wondering if I'll be too exhausted to enjoy it. LOL! As you can probably guess, I didn't find any time at all to quilt. I'm really missing it right now too. I would love to work on something right after I post this, but it will be time to work with the kids on their homework. That's okay though, they only have this week left and school could very possibly be cancelled tomorrow. :)

I have a wonderful quilt studio now! I did paint the walls periwinkle, it is 18 x 22 feet, with a nice view, where I hope to create wonderful things! I am still a great deal of time away from having the studio organized and all set up. I promise to share pics though as soon as it is all finished.

In the meantime, I'm working on three quilts simultaneously. I have to as I can't decide which one is top priority.

The kids have really been getting into the Christmas spirit by making ornaments for all their school and church teachers. Aren't they adorable little elves?!

I swear, I feel like I'm in slow motion today! I'm amazed at how much time is flying by and I'm not being nearly as productive as I had planned.

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving! The kids even made some ornaments for their teachers. We started a tiny bit on the shopping, taking care of a few great sales.

Sadly, I didn't get very much done on the quilting side of things. I did do quite a bit sewing at the guild on Tuesday night. We are making some quilts for a less fortunate community in the Appalachian mountains. My back was so sore for the next couple of days, but it was worth it and I was more than happy to do it.

The only little thing I have to show at the moment was the last BOM. I just love doing these tessellated blocks!

But for now, I hope I can manage to find the time to work on the Christmas quilt today. Kids will be home before we know it and then homework will swallow up the rest of the day. So, wish me luck.

I'm definitely feeling the euphoric effects of the approaching holidays! I'm singing holiday songs, planning out Christmas presents, pondering new Thanksgiving recipes. The temperatures are cooling down and oh, how I love that! I even added a Holiday Gift Set at my Etsy store.

My Quick Christmas Quilt is coming along so very slowly. However, I must admit that I'm sewing on it and several others simultaneously. I guess you could say that I'm having a bit of trouble prioritizing them. Also, the Christmas one has to be pressed after each individual seam, so I'm using the other projects as my "leaders and enders" in an effort to be more efficient. I'm not sure it is working but I'm having fun all the same.

So, did that last Mystery Clue stump anyone? Here is an update on the clues so far...

Well, I know that I was promised I could finish the Christmas top from the workshop in a day, but I didn't even come close! Now, granted, I did leave a few hours early, as I wasn't feeling very well. Even if I had stayed I wouldn't have finished even half of it. I'm soooo slow and I am big in pinning everything! Not to mention I was having a serious OCD moment when it came to where I was going to put each and every fabric. So, as you can see from the picture, I have a long way to go. LOL!

In order to make myself feel a little more productive and to please my son, who was begging me to do this, I made a little mini quilt for Thanksgiving.

Okay, time for Clue #5.

I really can't believe we are this far along in the year...practically on top of Thanksgiving already! I do love Autumn though and hope that Winter doesn't come to quickly, though I'd love some cooler temps. In the meantime, I'm enjoying this time of year. The kids had a great Halloween and you can imagine how pleased I was when they both said they wanted to wear last year's costumes...and they still fit!

I took some "regular" costume pics, but they also wanted to have "scary" pics too. LOL!

They drew out their pictures on to the pumpkins and hubby carved them out. You can really see their creative differences.

I also decided to try my favorite pumpkin cookie recipe in a mini-loaf form...yummy!

Oh, and a dear friend of mine, Jayn, made this great picture for me. She is so creative!

After Halloween, came the elections. I know that there were just so many different opinions on this one and that each of us chose whom we thought would be the best. In my household, we couldn't be more thrilled with the outcome. But I'm still saddened that things became so negative, especially with all of the false emails being forwarded left and right, without people bothering to check them out beforehand. It really doesn't take but a minute to go to Snopes, for example, and find the facts. I'm also saddened that people quit respecting that we have the "right to choose" and that is part of what makes our country so great. We don't have to have the same opinions, but we should respect each other either way. I am just so glad it is over. I really saw the "ugly" in a lot of people.

As for quilty things...I'm going to a workshop on Saturday. It is for a quick Christmas Quilt. Our instructor has been promising that we will leave with a finished top! Now, I'm pretty slow, but if it is even mostly finished that would be great! If anyone in the area is interested, it is only $20 and from 9:00 to 4:00. Just let me know and I'll give you more details.

I've started work on my next pattern. I have the design done, but I'll still have to piece it together, quilt, photograph and write up the pattern. But I can give you a little hint... I'm using the new Bistro line by Deb Strain from Moda. I'm a big coffee lover so I couldn't help but be drawn to it! Another hint...this pattern will use one layer cake and one jelly roll.

Speaking of hints, here's the 4th Mystery Clue...

I know that some of you have already made your guesses and I can't tell you if you are right or wrong yet...as it isn't time for the reveal. So, feel free to keep guessing. ;)

It looks like I might actually have a chance to do some piecing today. I think I'd like to work on a UFO fitting of the season. I have several, I'm ashamed to admit, but I might work on the Twin Autumn Sassy Sixteen. I made the first for my sister and I'm going to have one just like it. I worked a tiny bit on it at the retreat. Doesn't it look a mess?

Or, I might work on my Halloween Candy now that I have the border colors picked out. However, I don't recall where I put the fabrics...oops. LOL!

An Honor, a Printer and a Mystery

Let's start with the honor...the Fat Quarter Shop asked me to post on their blog, The Jolly Jabber. In the post, I give a little insight to the name of one of my patterns. Be sure to stop by and take a peek.

As for the printer. I had to get a new one this week. It's a shame as I loved the one I had. Then again, I guess that was the problem. I can easily estimate that I printed at least 12 thousands sheets on that tiny little thing!

Now, let's move on to the "Mystery". I mentioned previously that I had some news but that it wasn't the right time to share it, and well, it still isn't. But I'm excited and figured I could share little bits here and there. So, that's exactly what I plan to do. And, anyone who guesses the mystery will received any one of my patterns that they like. The first Clue is "Periwinkle".

However, we were missing a few of Hailey's. So, perhaps the next time we are Spring cleaning we can find the others and do another pic.

Christmas Placemat Purse & JMC Kits

I promised to show you the placemat purse...here it is. I think it turned out pretty well. More importantly, it gave me a basis on technique and now the creative ideas can flow. This one was made with two placemats. I'd like to try making the next using only one.

The Fat Quarter Shop has some adorable new kits made with "The Jelly Maker's Cabin" pattern. I just love seeing all of the different possibilities! I'm particularly fond of the "Mother's Cotton Patch" as the colors remind me of Christmas and gingerbread. I guess you could say I have the upcoming holidays on my mind.

Now, I know I promised some good news...but the time still isn't right yet. Hopefully, I'll be able to share soon.

Busy, Busy, Busy

Well, everything has been whirling around me as I've been so busy lately. I just got back from a quilt retreat in Maple Mount, KY. It was gorgeous there and the weather was perfect! I taught my Sassy Sixteen and had the best students!

I took a class at the retreat for making Christmas Placemat Purses. It was quite fun and I'll be sure to post a picture of my creation on my next post.

Karen Combs was also a teacher at the retreat, so now I have a new pattern and project to add to my "future to do" list. I think it will be something special for the hubby.

I've just released my newest pattern, "Charmingly Twisted" made for charms and nickels. This is the one I had meant to have available in the spring, but I just wasn't satisfied with the previous layout. However, I finally moved things around until I was pleased and then quickly finished it off.

Now, I know I have been absent a great deal the last several months, and I can't tell you how much I've missed it, but I promise I'll be around a lot more often. You can even sign up as a follower (on the right hand column). Besides, I have some more news as well, but need to wait just a short while to announce it. ;)

Checking In and Catching Up

Well, as usual, things have been busy here. School starts next week, church activities are on the horizon and Gentry's birthday is coming up. I can't believe how big he has gotten. He recently lost his front tooth and he sounds so cute with his temporary lisp.
I'm still on the quilting stages of Gentry's birthday quilt. But I know I'll get it done just in time. I used the X-Block tool and one of their patterns.

The BOM for the guild this time around was paper piecing. I did the demo for it, but I really don't think I did a good enough job to convince those that are not big fans to give it a try.

Pat at The Quilting Barn asked me to teach the Twisty Cakes pattern this coming October. If you are local, you know the classes are limited. So, if you are interested, be sure to contact her right away and get your name in.

I got a wonderful surprise package in the mail yesterday from New Zealand. Sue from Country Dawn Quilts sent me a wonderful FQ and a copy of New Zealand Quilter magazine.

Inside was their new ad featuring my Jelly Maker's Cabin quilt! I was so honored when she asked me if she could use it to promote her new store.

I have also recently received some original Jill Eugena hand-dyed fabric for use in one of my next patters. There were so many amazing ones that it made it really hard to choose!

And speaking of patterns, I decided to give my cover pics a bit of a makeover. I really like the added element of color framing each one. I look forward to finding just the right shade for the upcoming patterns.

Pay It Forward & Food for thought...

Okay, if the recipients haven't gotten theirs yet, they should have them today so I'm probably safe in showing them to the rest of you. I decided to make sewing machine mats for everyone. I just love them and plan to make one for myself when I can find the time. They are so cute, but can also really help keep the noise down caused from the vibrations on tables. And the pockets in front are very handy as well. You can make these with two FQs. Just baste, quilt and bind. Then fold over one end, sew down both side and add two more lines of stitching to create the pockets. I have to give credit where it is due...Melinda has one that I've been eyeing forever and it was my inspiration. Thanks, Melinda!

Now, a little food for thought and feel free to share your opinions. What do you do when someone asks you what you think about their quilts and it is really terrible? Do you lie? Do you find something ambiguous to say and hope they'll take it with a positive note? Do you just tell them flat out what you really think? Do you tell them the truth only if they ask? Does it matter how well you know the person...perhaps a good friend you might be more honest with? And do you apply these same rules for areas outside of quilting?

For me, I tend to find something positive to say but I don't lie to them. I've been told, "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." I don't always subscribe to that, even if it is wise advice. However, if someone is struggling with their quilt and let me know they aren't happy, I might use that time to make positive suggestions without saying what it is that I might not like. It goes the same whether it is a dear friend or someone I've just met.

Now, do I apply the rules for other areas in my life? Well, honestly, I guess that depends. I usually try to keep my mouth zipped. For example, there is someone sort of close to us that dyes their hair red. I'm not against red hair, but this color reminds me of Bozo the Clown. And while I've seen this very shade on others and it was beautiful, not so with this person. But, you know, it isn't my hair so why hurt their feelings. If they are happy with it, then let it be. If it were my husband though, I'd be honest with him (not that he has any hair, but that's beside the point) because I know he really would want me to tell him the truth. So, I guess unlike quilting, I vary the rules a bit.

So, why do the rules vary? I suppose because I think of quilting as an art form. And art should be appreciated whether it is your style or not. The good Lord has given us imagination and creativity and for the lucky few, talent. One should create art for the pleasure it gives them, not in an effort to please others. So, then the next question that forms in my mind...what others areas of life should I consider as art?

Addictions, Pay It Forward and a Giveaway

Well, I finally finished my Pay It Forwards. I'll post a pic in a few days, but I want to give the recipients a chance to received them first.

Tired Tuesday

I actually went to bed several hours before I normally do and I'm still tired today! Oh well. I have lots and lots to do today, so no time for relaxing.

Here is a pic of our recent BOM at the guild. It looks like applique, but it is actually pieced. It was pretty easy even though I was nervous the whole time. I didn't want to make a mistake and have to start over.

And this a picture of a quilt I made for a little one. I hope he likes it. I used my friend, Beaver's new pattern, "Toadly Ten". As soon as she has an online source to purchase it, I'll be sure to post a link.

Ostrich- Round 5 & New Pattern Info

It took me quite awhile, but I finally finished the fifth round of my Ostrich...Plain Jane. The top has grown to 62" so far and I've only done 5 of the 6 rounds. However, I have yet to "stick my head in the sand" for a round, so I could call it completely done. The sixth round, Grand Finale, is supposed to combine two parts from previous rounds. However, I have yet to be inspired to know what to do and also the top looks "done" to me. I'll continue to give it some thought and I'm totally open to suggestions, so feel free to share your 2 cents.

Okay, a bit of news on the designing front...I'm teaming up with a friend and local artist for my next pattern. Jill Eugena hand-dyes some of the most beautiful fabric! So, I'll be using her fabric in my next cover quilt and we may even put together some kits. It will still be awhile before the release of this one as I have so much to do before then. I won't bother sharing the list as it is overwhelming. But if I can manage everything in a timely manner, I'm hoping for an early October release.

Halloween Candy

In May, I took Melinda's Wrapped Candy class. It was great! I decided to go with a completely different look and make "Halloween Candy". I haven't decided on the inner and outer borders yet, either fabrics or even colors. I'm totally up for suggestions. I'm also thinking about doing some applique. This is great pattern though, be sure to get one if you don't have it.

BOM Updates

This was the June's BOM. We used a "new to me" applique method. You sew two pieces of fabric together with water soluable thread, leave an opening, turn right-side out and soak with your spray starch (which will disolve thread and give a great stiffness), iron/dry and then the two pieces will come apart leaving you with two applique pieces, mirror images, with the seams perfectly tucked under. Thank you, Tanja, for teaching us this one!

Here are two of the tops made from the previous BOMs. I am always amazed at how they come together!

Now, this month is called Stars, Stripes and Circles. It looks to be a bit challenging, a pieced circle that looks like applique. I'll let you know how it goes.

Twisty Cakes Class & Fun with Judy

My class went so well! The ladies were all wonderful and I loved seeing all of the great twisty blocks they made. I thought teaching from 9:00 to 4:00 might be a bit long, but the time just flew by so quickly. I could have easily continued on until late in the evening. I hope to make another digital scrapbook page after our next meeting, when I plan to get some pics of their "Twisty Cakes" quilts, in whatever stage they are at. Aren't the graphics on the "page" cute?! They are from a wonderful site that offers free digitial scrapbook kits...Shabby Princess.

I've been very busy lately and have lots of pics to show you, but I can't quite yet.

I'm working on another pattern and have made two tops for it, neither of which will be on the cover, so I need to wait to show you those.

I've also tested out a quilt pattern for a friend, it is so easy and super fast. But I need to wait to be able to show you that one until she has a store or something else set up for orders.

Now, there are a few things that I can show. My step-mom, Judy, has taken up quilting and is flying with her progress. She has made at least two more tops, possibly full quilts, since then but I don't have pics of those yet. This a pic of her first quilt, made entirely from flannel charms, it is gorgeous! She got the kit when we went to Paducah.

She also got some interesting fiber scarf kits. Here are some pics from the one she and I made for me.

My birthday was last week and I've been celebrating off and on for almost two weeks now.

It started with a much needed family vacation to celebrate both my birthday and Father's Day. We had been planning it for a long time. And sometimes when you do that, the expectation builds up and the plans don't seem to hold up to those expectations. Not the case this time! We went to Natchez Trace and it was so beautiful. I had intended to take lots of pictures, but we were having so much fun that I forgot to most of the time. I do have some though to share.

The most beautiful parts of the area in my opinion were the areas covered in ivy. I've never seen anything quite like it.

We had a beautiful view to wake up to and the kids got to pretend to be little forest rangers, too cute!

They also went on their first hike. They really aren't very in to the outdoors, so I did listen to a few complaints here and there. LOL!

Since then I've had wonderful gifts from family and friends...each on a different day. Even Rita Smith (at our LQS, Quiltsmiths) gave me a birthday discount. But, it's not all about "me", I'm even offering quiltstores two different sales for my patterns.

Classes and My Ostrich

"Sassy Sixteen" - October 4th, Great Escape Retreat, Maple Mount, KY

The "Twisty Cakes" class is $20 and that includes the pattern. Email me if you will be in the area and are interested.

The "Sassy Sixteen" class is during the much anticipated PUP's Great Escape 2008 Retreat! Other teachers for the retreat include: Jill Eugenia, Tanja Todd-Kellum, Easie Cecil and Karen Combs. We still have a few spots open, so let me know if you would like to come.

My "Ostrich" is finally coming along. A few months ago I completed the third round, Yin Yang. I used ribbons with knots in the middle to add dimension, texture and balance. Light purple fabric with dark purple ribbons; dark green fabric with light green ribbons; half of the ribbons are vertical and half are horizontal; a much more straight and structured round after the completely reckless round prior to it...all about balance.

The fourth round, Paradise, really gave me a lot of grief. Not so much in regards to actually doing the round, but in deciding what to do. Defining what "Paradise" means to me and then coming up with a design that represents that meaning, that also works with the previous rounds...well, it took forever. Finally, inspiration struck and all was revealed. So, what does Paradise mean to me? The Lord and all the blessings he continuously pours out to me...my cup runneth over! I know the picture is rather wonky, but if you look in the corners you will see goblets and they are overflowing, running over, all over the place. :)

Celebrations and Acknowledgements

There have been a lot of reasons to celebrate the last few months and I'm going to acknowledge most of them in this update.

Let's start with Hailey. My sweet little girl turned 10. She loved the Pretty Horses quilt I made for her birthday. She also loved going for a ride on a friend's horse. She is in the in-between stage where she loves big girl things, but was still extremely thrilled to get her American Girl doll.

Now, on to Gentry. He graduated from Caterpillar Club this Spring and will be moving on to Youth Club in the fall. He had a great "picnic" celebrations. Gentry's BBQ sandwich kept giving him some problems. LOL!

Gentry also had a fantastic time in Mini-Dribblers Basketball. I love the pics where his feet are off the floor!

And I can't forget about my mom, who was married this Spring. Congratulations to my mom, Marie, and her new husband, Jim. Isn't this picture fun? If you like it, be sure to check out Photo Enhancements.

BOM Updates

I believe I promised to update you on my BOMs. I didn't realize I was four months behind. Actually, I'm five months behind, but I didn't do one of them. It involved heirloom techniques and was a bit more than I was willing to handle at the time.

The first one here involved making three dimensional flowers. The technique was simple enough, but the time comsumption was way too much.

This one was fun, fast and super easy. It involved making half square triangle blocks, cutting them into strips, rearranging them and putting them back together.

This most recent one is your basic attic windows block, chosen to help us practice our "Y" seams.

Now, this isn't really a BOM, but it was made for a friend at the guild.

Charity Quilts

Just a little update on the charity quilts... I received a total of 10 blocks out of the 20 I'd normally need to make my Sassy Sixteen. And one very sweet lady, Susan from Madison, WI, donated a full Sassy Sixteen top with adorable kitty prints all over it!

Ladies from the guild quilted and bound it. It even had "Union University" quilted into the top border!

Now, as for what to do with those 10 blocks...since I didn't have time to make 10 more and put the top together. I decided to alternate all the donations with this gorgeous purple fabric.

We use our BOM contributions to make other charity quilts. And that reminds me that I'm a bit behind in posting some of those. So, I'll be sure to do that next time.

My newest pattern is now available! "Twisty Cakes" is a fun, easy pattern that is great for those Layer Cake and Dime packs. It is on it's way to the stores now and is currently available at my Etsy store.

Now, this pattern was not the original one I planned on releasing this month. However, the other one is taking a bit longer and then I thought of this one and it seemed so quick and easy that it took top priority. I'm not sure when I'll get back to the other one as I have many other things on my plate, but you all will be the first to know!

What's new???

I know, I promised some quilty pics and updates to be posted about a week ago. I'm terribly sorry, time is just flying by before I get a chance to post. Let's see if I can catch up on everything now...

First of all, I want to thank the ladies that sent me blocks for a quilt for a Union University Tornado victim. I have 5 blocks (and coordinating squares). Only 15 more to go...

We have a new online retailer carrying my patterns. I'm sure you are all familiar with the Fat Quarter Shop. If not, be sure to pay them a visit.

Also I've been using the wonderful Leaders and Enders method to work on the kit I got from Lazy Mazy's.

My church sewing guild has been working on a quilt to donate for an auction. The colors are so vibrant. It will be great to see how it looks when all put together.

I made a Bingo block for the next quilt guild meeting.

Here are two leaf blocks that will be used in one (or maybe two) quilts to be raffled off at our retreat in the fall.

I made some Wrapped Candy blocks for Melinda to make another adorable candy quilt.

Took a field trip to Arkansas last week to a quilt store that is closing down. I picked up some random goodies. Gentry came along and was so good. He also got a little sleepy on the ride up.

Hailey's quilt is coming along slowly, but surely. I can't show too much here as it is a surprise for her and she likes to check out my blog.

My new quilt/pattern has become the "turtle" in my life...slow and steady wins the race. I wanted to give you a very tiny sneak peek. I have altered the image just a bit though so that the final results will be a surprise. There are a lot of colors and fabrics in this quilt!

Tonight I need to work on a new QOYO block. It looks easy, just need to decide on the fabric choices and placement.

I know I've been working on more than that, but I honestly can't recall what all it may have been? This weekend will be the Farm & Gin show and I haven't made anything else for it, yet. And Friday night is one of the favorite church activities for hubby and I. It is the Low Country Boil and Hoedown. Now, we never dance, just watch the others. But the shrimp and other fixin's are just too wonderful to pass up.

Sassy Sixteen Opportunity to Help

Look at this Christmas Sassy Sixteen made by my dear friend, Marge! Thank you, Marge, for letting me post it, it is wonderful!

I have an opportunity to help for anyone who is interested. As some of you might know, we had quite a bit of damaging weather here last week. One of the places hit by a tornado was a local college dorm. Lots of students lost everything. My guild is determined to make a dozen quilts, minimum, for them. Any of you who have my pattern, if you would like to help, it would be great if you could make a Sassy Sixteen block from eight different jewel tones fabrics and send eight 3 1/2" squares, one from each of the same fabrics used in the block, we'd be happy to piece the top and finish the quilt. Just let me know (so I can send you my address) and have them in the mail by next Tuesday. I'm swamped in my day to day life and I know that many of you are too, but I thought maybe if some of us could make just a block or two, that it might not be too bad.Thanks so much!!!

Most of you have no idea how clever my son, Gentry, can be around the house. I'm always finding new things that he has reorganized or moved to fit his idea of "pleasing". Usually, it consists of stacking things, grouping similar objects, etc. They serve as tiny little surprises to find around the house that can let one, little by little, into the creative (and OCD) frame of mind of my son. He never points out his little creations, as he does them more on impulse than for attention. Imagine my surprise the other night when cooking dinner to turn around and find my salad had be altered...

I haven't forgotten about my recipients either. I am just fine tuning the measurements. I get insecure when making new things, so bare with me.

My cold is mostly over now and I spent a nice afternoon at church yesterday working on Hailey's quilt. I got a decent amount of cutting done.

Today I'm going to work on my third pattern. I just hope with all the winter storms we don't lose power like so many others have in our area.

Day of Celebration...

Well, it would be more of a celebration if I didn't have such a nasty cold. Regardless, the 27th is my sister's bday and it's also Hubby's and my dating anniversary (14 years ago). We had planned on going out but I wasn't up to it. I asked for a rain check, so maybe next weekend.

I also didn't finish my sister's present in time, but it's going out in the mail tomorrow. My dear friend, Marge, made me one of these for Christmas and I absolutely love it! It is a Rice Heat Therapy Bag. Not only is it wonderful for those aches and pains, it is awesome as a foot warmer. And while we haven't had snow, it has gotten rather chilly around here. Her favorite color is purple, so that is what I used. I'm thinking of making some for the Farm & Gin show too... if time allows.

I finished the needle case too. It turned out pretty well. Thanks again, Marion, for the kit! Now Gentry won't be losing my needles by pushing them deep into my pincushions anymore. LOL!

Tomorrow is officially the day that I start work on Hailey's quilt. The first part has fussy cutting, so I'm not looking forward to that, but always best to get the worst over first. I also need to work on my next pattern, Bingo blocks for the guild, Melinda's block for the retreat and the next QOYO block.

It's now after midnight, so I guess I'll get some sleep before school with Gentry. Monday's are always the hardest!

Now to pass the award on to a few others.... Melinda, Marion, Anne, Linda, Jan and Perry. You all are just a few that have "Made My Day" at one time or another.

Well, I have been so busy lately that I haven't had any time to be on online with my blog or or any other blogs. It'll take me forever to catch up on what's been going on with everyone.

On the quilting side of things...the BOM for the guild this month was to make Trapunto Pillows. My first time with trapunto, not too bad. I did, however, intentionally choose a busy multi-colored batik, so that it might not show if I didn't do a super job. I was satisfied with it though and might do more in the future.
I'm working on a needle case at the moment. The kit was a gift from my Secret Santa. I'd love to finish it today, but sadly my wee ones have passed on a cold to me and I might just nap most of the day away.

I'm all set up for the retreat next fall! I got the class I was hoping for and 7 people have already signed up for the one I'm teaching. In addition, a dear friend of mine gave me a present yesterday that she made and I asked if she would mind me making the same to give to those who are taking my class. I have been trying to think of what to make for at least 6 months now, and I'm so relieved to have that decision made. Now, I just need to set aside time to do it.

I sketched out Hailey's bday quilt yesterday. She found one in an older catalog that she liked, but the price for the kit was a bit much, so I decided to make due and make something similar. I have all the fabrics and will start working on it next Monday. The border is made from quite a few pieces, but the center should be relatively quick, so hopefully it will all even out. Gentry has already started giving me ideas for his next one too. LOL!

Hoping for snow...

If all goes the way I want it to, we might have some snow at the end of the week. But I'm not really counting on it. We don't have snow very often. I'm still hoping though.

I had a friend over for a bit yesterday. It was just what I needed to get going on stuff. I made a block for the guild's donation to the Farm and Gin show. They are going with jewel tones.

After that was done my friend left, but I was still feeling motivated so I finally finished the second round of my Ostrich Challenge quilt, "Binary" was the theme. I decided when I started that this quilt was meant for me to challenge myself. I definitely did that with this round...the non-uniform and quirky meander of the bias tape...very unlike me. I enjoyed my accomplishment for about two seconds before I realized I had no idea what I was going to do for the next round. LOL!

I finished quilting on my Wreath WH, yes, I know, it is after Christmas. I still have about half of the binding to do and some type of sleeve. I wanted to finish up the guild stuff first though. I still have the BOM to do, but I'm having to search high and low for water-soluble thread. I didn't realize it would be so hard to come by and I don't have time to order it. Still not sure I want to do this block at all, but I'll probably give it a try anyway.

My next pattern hit a speed bump, the layout wasn't working as well as I had hoped for. So, now I think I have that part solved. Just struggling with finding the time to piece it! Maybe I can get an hour in today.

Oh, I wish you all a very blessed 2008! I've been spending extra time with the hubby and kids over the holiday. It has been wonderful, but I have gone through a few "blog" withdrawals. Christmas was wonderful and the kids had such fun with their new things. We let them stay up until Midnight for the New Year, playing games, reading together and having some great, yet simple snacks including Cocktail Meatballs, Rotel Cheese Dip and chips and the Gingerbread house we had decorated together. New Years day was even more casual with a big pot of black-eyed peas and cornbread.

Today I'm back to work... mostly on my next pattern. A tiny hint is that it is made from A LOT of charms. I'll try to post a bit of a sneak peek picture soon. I have promised to have it ready sometime in the Spring, but I'll also have Hailey's Birthday quilt to tend with at the same time, so wish me luck.

Tonight I'm going to work on the binding of the Wreath quilt. I know, Christmas is over, but I'm so close to having it finished, I can't bare the thought of waiting until next fall to finish it up.

Speaking of finishing... here is my new UFO list... why does it have to be so long??? LOL! If all goes well I'll be able to cross off something by tomorrow. I'm hoping to get some handwork done while watching the game.

What game??? The Fiesta Bowl with the OU Sooners of course! I wish I still lived in AZ right about now.

Hubby and I are also going to try to finish the second half of the third Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Boy it is a long movie!

Secret Santa Stocking Swap!!!

Today was the day! We all got to open our stockings from our secret Santa's. Too much fun. Marion was my secret Santa and she spoiled me rotten with the goodies she sent! Thank you, Marion, you are such a dear! So, here is what I got...

I loved everything! I got a wonderful stocking and holder that have been hung up for many days taunting me. There were a few things that didn't even fit in the stocking. Let's see... I received two beautiful asian print FQs. Bobbin covers, scissor tip covers, a cute needle holder kit, needle threaders and some hand lotion (all needed and appreciated). A large Mocha Latte scented candle (oh, so yummy). "Chalk It Up" book and chalk board fabric (too cool). I also received a gorgeous little tote, a sweet note pad, wonderful Christmas Memories book, and some dark chocolate. Thank you again, Marion, it was all so very wonderful!!!!

Yesterday was our annual Christmas get together and dinner for the quilty ladies at my church. It was a lot of fun. I just love those ladies! While I was there, I finished the quilting on my wreath WH. I just need to trim, make and sew on the binding, but not sure when I'll get to that.

I'm also pleased to announce that I am completely finished shopping for the hubby and that includes taking the kids to shop for him as well. I even have all of his stuff wrapped. (Except for stocking stuffers, those are still hidden.) Now, if I can just finish wrapping the kids things. I have been wrapping presents every day for well over a week, maybe two. Does it ever end???? LOL! The house is decorated except outside lights, but the weather hasn't been great here and I haven't had the heart to ask hubby to do it. He won't let me climb on the ladder to do it myself.

I have to make some more goodies in the kitchen today for our pastors. I don't really need them until Christmas Eve, but if I do it now I don't have to think about it anymore.

I hope all of you are winding down, relaxing and enjoying the holiday season. And I hope that every gift you receive is filled with love and thoughtfulness!

Christmas and Birthday

Hailey's school Christmas play went very well on Thursday. And while I know I might be a bit biased, she was by far the best of the actors. Her teacher said she'd never had a student that could act so well. Always wonderful to hear your kids being praised by others. She was really sweet too when Gentry wanted to share the limelight during picture time.

Friday, when Hailey has half days at school, we decided to brave the mall for a Santa visit. I couldn't help but ask them if they thought it was the real Santa or one of his helpers. They said the beard and hair seemed real, so it must have been the real one. LOL! I guess only Santa can have a gray hair and beard. LOL!

I took a break from making Christmas gifts to make a birthday present. It is for my Godmother who will be 75 tomorrow. She is probably the most influencial person in my life. My parents aren't Christians, but she and her family are and they led me to Christ when I was a child. Tommie is an amazing woman who constantly demonstrates the fruits of the Spirit. She is also a wonderful cook and loves lemons. So, making an apron from this lemon fabric seemed like the right thing to do. I also thought these bee buttons looked cute and couldn't resist adding them.

Christmas Party

We had our guild's Christmas party this week. It was so much fun! It was a potluck and I brought the very tasty, very easy cocktail meatballs. I think I'm going to have make another batch today!
Show and tell was great. I had just enough goodies for each person to win something. My Sunday "time-off" allowed me to have the top finished of the Christmas Wreath quilt kit I won at the all-nighter. This was such an easy wall-hanging to piece. I need to baste it, but I haven't decided how I plan to quilt it yet, so not in much of a hurry there.

Our guild president gave each of us board members a present. We all got these cute ornaments and this beautiful scarf! I'm wearing mine right now. :)

We also had our gift exchange. I love the way we do the exchanges! Sit in a circle, and have someone read "Twas the Night Before Christmas". We actually used the quilter's version of the story. Whenever the reader says "the" you pass the present to the right, and when she says "and" you pass to the left. At the end of the story, whatever present is in front of you is what you get! This could work with any story/poem for other times of the year. I tend to think that God puts his own hand in it as it is amazing how many people get exactly what they needed/wanted. I got a storage box that I truly need for my thread spools. A set of scissors, including pinking shears that I need. I lost mine years ago. And this sweet book that I can't wait to read. I'm going to wait until after Christmas though to play with my goodies.

Hailey has her school play today. Can't wait to see it!

I was gone most of the day, but I had a wonderful package waiting for me when I came home. Look at how pretty Linda wrapped up the quilt I won on her blog!
Isn't it beautiful!!! The piecing, the quilting, the fabrics, the embroidery...all stunning! I just love it! Can't wait to find just the perfect spot to display it.

Second Sunday of Advent

Isn't this a cute nativity scene? Hailey painted it when she was in 2nd grade at church. Yes, the decorating has begun and we might be about half way through, though I'm not really sure. The poor tree is still waiting to have it's lights finished.

However, Christmas has been trickling in already. I have received three subscriptions as gifts and two of them already sent the magazines. And yesterday the postman brought me a package from my Secret Stocking Santa. Now, I don't get to open anything yet, except for the box it came in. She sent this pretty stocking, plus the sparkly hanger. The stocking is filled up, but there were a few items that didn't fit that I put on the mantel. We all get to open them on the 20th and have a chat session.

I got to take a break from the Christmas chores yesterday after I made sure that everything that needed to be mailed out was made, wrapped and ready to go. Then I had some to time to work on blocks for the guild. The first is this redwork block for the BOM. I was inspired after winning that gorgeous quilt from Linda. As you can see, this pattern isn't nearly as glamorous, but I did it and it's okay. I don't think I'll be doing anymore though, at least not without a good lesson from someone who is much better at it than I am.

I also started on the next QOYO block. Well, all I can say is that I won't be taking any pictures and I have visions of things being thrown into the trash. My only real remorse is the thought of the fabric I used going to waste, but the pieces are so small I don't think they can be salvaged. I'd be lucky if I could come up with eight 1" cut squares from all of it. I'll see what I can do. And now, since it is a "quilt of my own" I need to come up with a different block that might have a similar feel to it. Any suggestions? I'm looking for something very quick and easy as I'm running out of time now.

In the meantime, I'm going to work on something just for fun...the Christmas WH kit I won at the All-nighter. I've already started cutting pieces for it. Tomorrow I'll go back to being a Christmas elf and making and making and making things. But today, other than decorating, I'm taking a break. That is unless one of you comes up with the perfect idea for a QOYO block.

Great mail and Happy Chanukah

Happy Chanukah to all of my jewish friends and visitors. My family and I will be thinking about you all and your wonderful customs and celebrations.

Yesterday was a great mail day. The present I ordered on Friday for the guild exchange arrived. It is a precut block kit from Lazy Mazy called Happy Penguin Holiday. I layed out the pieces of one block to see what it will look like and to take the picture. My kids loved it and were sad when I said it was going to someone else. Good time to remind them it is a season of giving and not receiving.

I also got a surprise in the mail from Sissy, the owner of Lazy Mazy. I can't tell you how much I need these little tags! I will be doing a bit of organizing tonight in an effort to make room for Christmas decorations. These will really come in handy! Thank you, Sissy! Oh, and she is having a great sale today on FQ's and Strips.

Hanging of the Greens

Today was the start of our Advent season and the Hanging of the Greens service tonight at church. It was so great! We got to watch all of the kids in our church lead us in worship. Two particular children caught my attention...

Gentry was cast as Joseph. But my shy boy is known for stage fright. I couldn't even get a normal smile from him, poor baby!
Here he is with "Mary", also known as the girl he has the biggest crush on. She is precious for sure! He did a great job though and I was tickled watching him.

Hailey isn't shy at all and was wonderful. She sang loud, clear and didn't miss a beat. She has even gotten really animated the last few years when she sings...as though she is really trying to get the meaning of words across.

The picture is poor quality, but I had to try and capture it for you all anyway. There were all dressed in white, with candles (electric) in hand. The lights were off and it was so beautiful.

There is just nothing like starting off the holiday season blessed by our youth. It definitely warms the hearts as the temperatures cool down.

It was an awesome end to an awesome day! The OU Sooners won! Woohoo, it was a great game. :)

The kids had rehearsals yesterday for their Christmas performances tonight. So, that gave me a bit more time to get things done. I made so many things, none of which I can show as the recipients are visitors. But I'll be happy to share some of the great project ideas when the holidays are over...if someone reminds me.

I did make my sister promise not to visit. So, I can tell you that in the middle of being a Christmas elf yesterday, I had an idea to make matching coasters for her placemats (which I had only finished about 2 seconds before the idea). So, yes, I made coasters too.

I was also busy on Friday night making some ornaments with the clear glass balls. I have to push my finger in them to adjust things. Well, one of them had a little stick of glass sticking out at an angle, but I didn't see it. I felt it though, as I turned my finger counter-clockwise which put the entire piece all the way in. I knew I had glass in my finger (which is the same size as the opening) and I knew my finger was stuck. I just sat there saying, "ouch" for several seconds before trying to turn my finger clockwise and thus removing the glass. Yes, I kept on going though and made several more ornaments. But I looked at each opening from that point on to check for impending mishaps. LOL!

Guild was great the other night. I won a door prize, which is always fun. I don't even care what I get, I just have fun winning!

It was reassuring to see the other ladies' BOM and that they were all off just like mine was. For December, the BOM will be redwork, which I've never tried. I see so many of you ladies posting your redwork and it is just beautiful. I'm not sure that I have the confidence to give it a try, but we'll see.

Melinda was our speaker and taught us how to make some really cute things! I think I'm going to give one a try today. I just have to finish my sister's last placemat first.

QOYO #4 and Sooner Support

Woohoo! A good productive day so far. In addition to many other things, I managed to finish the 4th QOYO block! Now, I'm all caught up there. However, the next one is due two weeks early, so the break won't be long. And it doesn't look like a very fun pattern either. It is called Whirling Pinwheel. I'm not a big fan of sewing curves or using templates.

In honor of the upcoming OU game, I thought I'd show support by posting the really old pic of me. My Godparents were huge OU fans, bought this outfit and had my picture made. It didn't actually have OU on it, but the right colors and the football were good enough for them.

I have been completely inspired by Donna and Linda! And I'm overly curious about the lurkers that visit. I have so many hits from other countries. I would love to know who you are! So, like the ladies above, I'm going to have a drawing for each person (lurkers and non-lurkers alike) that posts under this comment. What will the prize be? That is a secret, but I can tell you that it will be found hidden inside this cute tin. I'll hold the drawing on Thursday at noon my time, so don't wait too long to post.

November BOM and QOYO #5

BOM is done. It was made with a paper piecing pattern. I love paper piecing as it really helps to make everything precise. However, as you can see from the picture, the pattern itself wasn't precise. It is about 1/4" off where the strips are supposed to match. My OCD is off the charts when I look at the block! Thanks goodness I will be turning it in tomorrow and then I won't have to see it anymore. It was fun working with the strips though.

Speaking of strips. The 5th QOYO block was "Strips and Stripes" and it was up to us what that meant. Fortunately for me, the bonus block I made a couple of months ago, fits that description, so I'm not as behind as I thought. Now, I just have to finish the 4th block today.

I actually get to take something off of my UFO list! I finished my Autumn Wall-hanging.

I also have a couple of close up pics here of a little scarecrow and owl that I just had to add. They were too cute to leave off.

I just couldn't stand the thought of another year going by and not having it done. And I was determined to have it done before the Christmas decorations start going up in a few days.

And I also dread the thought of how this list will look in January when I will probably have to add the quilts I started this year.

Christmas Panic All Night Quilting

Last night our guild had a "Christmas Panic All-nighter". It was so much fun! Most of the people cut out around Midnight, but Jean and I lasted until 7:00 in the morning. I won a great door prize from a store just south of us in Mississippi called Sew Susan. It was a kit to make a Christmas Wreath quilt wall-hanging/table topper. I can't wait to start working on it!

While I was at there last night, I got a lot done on my sister's placemats... the tops are done and now I need to birth and quilt them. I hope she likes them!

I also got a kit from Lazy Mazy yesterday. She pre-cuts the fabrics for her kits and she does an amazing job! Think of how much time it saves in making a quilt. Though I have no idea how she manages to find the time to cut everything. And, no, she doesn't have any type of die-cutting machines. She just uses rulers, templates and her rotary cutter...Amazing!

Got a Betz White kit in the mail today for a Cup O' Joe pincushion kit. Isn't it cute! I love my coffee and now I have this cup to go along with the real thing. It was such an easy thing to make, very simple pattern, and I'd love to make another one or five. This could be very addictive! She also has those adorable Cupcake Pincushions. She has a new book coming out and I might have to check it out to see all of the adorable things she has come up with.

Gentry enjoyed losing his first tooth so much he decided it was time to lose the 2nd yesterday. Ahhh, I remember those tooth fairy visits.

And we got exciting news. Gentry was cast as Joseph for the Christmas program. Hard to believe as he is as shy as they come!

I also got gifts in the mail from my dear friend, Marge. She sent me two blocks left over from her swap. And she also sent me some very coveted (by me) Elm Creek Christmas fabric. Thank you again, Marge!

Speaking of Christmas, I've started making my ornaments. I'll show a pic when I have more done. But for now, I'm going to get back to my autumn WH that I was working on early today.

Tomorrow is going to be a wonderful day, but I'll post about it afterwards. I hope everyone's weekend is off to a good start!

Quilt Show and Gentry

Finally, it really is looking like Autumn now! I just love the colors of the trees. I'm inspired to finish up my Autumn WH now. I wonder if I can find the time and energy to work on it tonight?

Here is the apron I made for the guild to sell at the show. My first one, not too bad. It was quite a bit easier than I thought it might be, but it took longer than I had hoped. Hubby also made some wonderful pumpkin cookies (my step-mom's recipe) for me to package up and have sold there too. They are so good... can't have just one!

The show has so many amazing quilts and I took a tour of the plantation manor... it is the oldest house in the area. It is amazing!

Of course, I had to buy a couple of things too. The neck pillow was made by Melinda and it is so comfy, now hubby and kids want one too. And while I have made numerous potato bags, I haven't bothered to make one for myself yet, so now I don't have to!

I got back from going the LQS last night to find Gentry waving me into the house. He is always happy to see me, but this was more than that. He had just lost his first tooth! He was so happy and is now wiggling the one next to it in hopes of getting more money from the tooth fairy.

Today was Gentry's last Little Kicker's soccer game. He has had so much fun! After the game they had a pizza party and he got a trophy and team picture. He is already talking about playing next year!

Did we all have a safe and Happy Halloween? We had three celebrations this past week. They were all fun, safe and brimming with way too much candy. Have you seen the cute packs of candy corn called "Harvest Seeds" with a Bible verse on them? The kids had a great time and now I have to start taking down the Halloween decorations and putting up the few Thanksgiving ones I have. My kids had very interesting ideas when they drew their faces on the pumpkins this year. I don't know how Rene' managed to carve all the jagged edges on Hailey's and to keep the two tiny teeth on the top of the mouth on Gentry's. I usually have cute faces on mine, but the kids had a different view than I did this year.

Look what I did. I dabbled into making my very first "inchies". I was going for a Christmas feel. They are so little that I'm not sure what exactly I'll do with them. Normally, I'm not really into embellishing things, but I started to have fun while working on these. I have more to work on, but ran out of time yesterday. I'll get back to you once I have some more done.

Surprise, surprise! Look what had wandered out right next to the sidewalk of a busy street near my house. Isn't it sweet? There isn't that much of a wooded area right there and from the size of it I would guess there must be a mommy and daddy around too, but I can't hardly imagine it. Two sides are surrounded by busy streets, the other two sides by a large elementary school and housing neighborhoods. The sad part is that there is a big sign saying that it is going to be a new park soon... bye-bye trees and bye-bye Bambi.

Saw the deer on the way to Davies Plantation. There is going to be the 5th Annual Quilt Show there this weekend, lots of quilts and other old time trades. Our guild has a booth there and I went to help set up a bit. They asked for quilts to display and I sent in two. I'm not up for entering them into judged contests or anything... but just for display, okay I guess I can be brave enough for that. I took pics of them while I was there and proceeded to ask about the numbers pinned to them. I was told they are used for voting. Yes, it is contest after all! Well, I couldn't very well do anything about it this point. I already feel insecure about my work anyway, having no one vote for me and not winning anything.. yeah, that'll really help! Oh well, life will go on. LOL!

As for tonight, I'm going to give a whirl at making my first apron and some more pot-holders to sell at the show. I'll be sure to post pics when I'm done.

My Munchkins and Last of Branson

Last night was the beginning of all the Halloween festivities. They had a festival at our church, Advent Presbyterian. This year I have my own little Hermione along with a too cute dragon. Tonight is our neighborhood block party and then of course there will be Halloween night. I love that they get more than just one night out of their costumes. However, just between you and me, I did catch Gentry running around the house at 3 am the other day in his costume... looked like a scene from "Where the Wilds Things Are". LOL! I guess he is getting even more use of his costume.

I decided to give the "video" portion of my camera a try. The lighting was poor and the overall quality is pretty louzy, but the kids loved it so I said I'd share with all of you... (I hope this works, it's my first time posting a video file.)

For the last of our Branson trip... While the wee ones were at the tiny amusement rides, the bigger kids got to have fun on two other Go Kart tracks. Hailey is on the one for slightly bigger kids and then there is the grown-up kid one with Rene' and Gentry. It is quite large and is very bumpy due to the wooden planks... thus the reason it is called "Wild Woody".

And back to the resort, Grand Country, they have some pretty large musical instruments there in addition to really great indoor miniature golf courses.

And finally we were on our way home. It rained the entire time, but I doubt the kids noticed... I think they were a bit tuckered out!

Autumn and Branson Pt. 2

Sorry for the delay in posting, I've been a bit under the weather. And speaking of the weather... Autumn is finally starting to make an appearance.

Here are a few more pics from the vacation. There is a tiny amusement park where Gentry and his cousins (of similar age) spent quite a bit of time. The youngest blonde is Keegan, and the red-haired little lady is Keegan's big sister, MaKinzy And the red-haired boy is Christopher. It was just down the street from the hotel and was a perfect way for the wee ones to spend their time.

I finished my sister's quilt. I don't know if she has posted the kit at her ebay store yet, but you can always contact her directly. I really like the way it turned out. It reminds me of scarecrows, I suppose it is the patchwork. Hopefully it arrived today, but I haven't heard if she likes it yet or not.

The guild's BOM this month was this Celtic block. I have never done this before, so I think it turned out quite well.

I also made this cute pumpkin! No sew, no glue and recycling, sounds great to me. And if I decide I need the fabric later on... no problem, it will come apart very easily. I found the instructions here. So quick and easy. Took about 5 mins from deciding to make it, finding the stuff and putting it together. I'll probably let Gentry make one (or more) for craft time during home-schooling.

Back from Branson

Wow, what a vacation. I'm still trying to recover from all the activity. It was great. Got together with family and did lots of activities with the kids. I have lots of pics from the vacation to post, so I'll probably have to do a little bit each day.

We stayed at Grand Country. They have a wonderful Fudge & Gift Shop! We bought several different types of fudge. It is so rich that we haven't finished any of them yet. I also found this perfect plate and hanger set. You know me and grapes... I had to have it!

They have this great indoor water park, Splash Country, and the kids had so much fun...okay, I had fun too. It has slides, rope ladders, small pools, a little lazy river, and more.

The most interesting thing was this giant bucket at the top of the structure. It would fill up with water and then when it was full it would sound a bell as a "warning" (but it served more like a call to have people gather underneath it) that it was going to dump out. The force and amount of water is incredible. You can just barely make out Hailey among the water.

And yes, I found the LQS there. Found a new book, a grape print I've been wanting, and a couple of pale fabrics to audition for Santa's face for Melinda's Santa Placemats and Tablerunner.

Too Hot!

Spent a little time on the weekend making some potholders to sell at the show. I have a couple of other sets I want to make and then I'll move on to something else.

And yesterday I finished up making four blocks for a Christmas table topper. The ladies from the MB I frequent were holding a Christmas block swap with this pattern. I couldn't commit to being in the swap, too much on my plate, but I didn't want to feel left out either. I figured I could manage 4 blocks. I love this setting, it looks like a star.

Continuing to work on the binding for my sister's quilt. Not a lot of fun having a quilt draped over me with the current temps. Have you noticed that it is October and my Weather Pixie has been wearing a bikini? It was 95 degrees here yesterday, that is so insane! This is supposed to be my favorite time of the year. I wish the weather would change soon.

Old Series That Are Worth Mentioning...

One of my favorite things to do when I need to relax is get some DVDs from Netflix. We don't have cable or satellite for many reasons, but the main one is that there is just too much junk out there for my kids to come across. However, I do miss a lot of series when they originally come out. The plus side is that when I Netflix them, I don't have to wait a week between each episode. Two of my favorite episodes are from across the ocean... Ballykissangel and Monarch of the Glen. I have seen Ballykissangel (all shows) more than once and never get tired of them. I'm on Season 6 of Monarch of the Glen and have loved every minute of it. If you haven't seen these and are in the mood for good quality TV, this is where to look! I wish the TV people here in the US would make series like these instead of some of the ones they are doing. It's nice to take a break from the sensationalisim found everywhere on my current TV and enjoy some relaxing charm.

The colors and fabrics of Autumn...

I'm done with the quilting on my sister's quilt and all that remains is the binding! If you are interested, she is selling the kit to make it....pattern, 16 FQs, 1/2 Yard Binding fabric (seen in the pretty little basket), not sure about the backing fabric (she has this great extra wide Autumn print fabric that is nice) and the batting, but you could ask her.

I also took time to set up an Etsy store for my patterns... Kimberly Camou Quilts...Divine Inspirations. I get several emails from people wanting to purchase directly from me, maybe this will help with that.

Went to the church on Wednesday for a bit of quilt time. My dear friend, Sandi, surprised me by having finished her Sampler of Psalms top. I'm so proud of her, she did a great job! I did a little bit on my Autumn WH, but not enough to take a new pic. Maybe later on today.

We are having a sew day tomorrow for our guild. Going to make things to sell at the Davies Plantation. Sad to say, I still have no idea what to make. But I need to figure it out soon in case I have to go buy stuff. I'm so slow, it will have to be very easy and fast stuff, preferably inexpensive, but also something that people would like to buy. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

Mummy Mambo

Okay, I've been playing with my blog "look" and I'm in the middle of things, so please excuse the overall effect. I promise it will be all better, eventually.

I got a wonderful present in the mail this weekend from my friend Marge. She knows how much I like Halloween and sent me this adorable panel!

I've been quilting like crazy on my sister's quilt... still not done. I WILL be done with that part of it tonight though.

Super Start to my Saturday

It's true, I can't decide on what template to use. I can make my own graphics, but don't know how to incorporate them on to this blog. If you know how to place your own graphic (and what the best size might be) into the main title space or one for the background, please pass the info on to me.

Just got back from Gentry's soccer game. He looks so big, but in fact isn't even 4 feet tall yet, and possibly the shortest one on his team. He looks like he might just take flight. It was such a nice morning, the sun was shining and the weather was cool. Just perfect to remind you to count your blessings.

What next?

Too many projects to work on and I can't quite decide what to do first! I guess I need to work on my sister's quilt, at least finish quilting the center part. And I really do want to finish the Fall wall-hanging, so perhaps I could at least trim it up and cut out the borders. I also have a brand new Halloween panel. It is begging me to cut it up and make a throw from it!

However, Christmas is just around the corner and I just acquired Melinda's Santa Table Runner pattern, some awesome penguin fabric, and I have another Christmas table topper needing attention. That's three different projects right there!

And well, yes, there is the BOM and the QOYO block and well, so many other things. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what yells at me the most to be worked on.

I know it won't look like much, but here it is anyway. The first night I spent most of my time quilting on the Autumn version of the Sassy Sixteen for my sis. I don't have a picture of that of that part. The next day, I worked a bit on the beginning of my step-mom's quilt. She picked out all the wonderful fabrics and I think it will be beautiful when it is done.

Saturday evening I finally started working on something for "me". It was such an old UFO that it had dust bunnies like you wouldn't believe. But I made some good progress on it... I hope to finish it soon so I can hang it up this year.

Finally on Sunday I pulled out my old Ostrich Challenge. I was so tired I barely managed to put the yellow border on it. I still have so much to do!

Back from Retreat (Photo Heavy)

Well, I have been back since Sunday night, but have been completely exhausted from having such a great time! We are already talking about doing it again in the Spring. :)

Is all of this really necessary? Well, the answer is "Yes, absolutely!" You can't even see my luggage which is behind my machine, under the bedding. Some of those bags contain a single project. I took five UFOs to work on, but only managed to work on four of them. Didn't actually finish any, but at least they are closer to completion.

It didn't take long to settle in, but I'll admit making the bed on the top bunk on the right wasn't as easy as I would have liked. Cute rooms, huh. They were so rustic looking and cozy, but everything was very modern and clean!

Then it was all about the quilting... okay, maybe a little about the socializing. We had a great big room to work with so we really spread out....

Doesn't that look like fun? That first night, I didn't sleep well... defective mattress that I would swear was made of nothing but rusty metal. So, I got to move to different bunk the second day and oh, it was so much better! And don't you think my Jelly Maker's Cabin quilt looked perfect in that setting? And here are some of the great things that just a few of the ladies worked on....

This is truly just the tip of the iceberg of what wonderful things were accomplished. What did "I" do? Well, I'm out of time at the moment, but I'll post my stuff next time.

QOYO #3 and Bonus QOYO
